Liberec, Reichenberg in German, Libertsis in Romance has been a Czech city since 1945 and it is also a seat of North Bohemia as well as headquarters of region government. Its style has been formed for centuries by rugged territory between Jizera Mountains in the north and Ještěd range in southwest together with the river Nisa. With its 100 000 inhabitants Liberec belongs to the biggest cities in the Czech Republic.

Its style has been formed for centuries by rugged territory between Jizera Mountains in the north and Ještěd range in southwest together with the river Nisa. With its 100 000 inhabitants Liberec belongs to the biggest cities in the Czech Republic.

The city is known for its architecture all over the world. Even though it does not have a medieval centre, we can find a beautiful baroque church of Holly Cross from 17th century, remnants of Valdštejn´s houses, Castle of Liberec but above all number of gorgeous secession mansions there.

Hundred-year-old town hall is the most dominant building. Other buildings such as museum, spa, Economic Chamber building, post office or savings bank also belong to architectural prides. Transportation terminal has been built recently as well as very good-looking library and synagogue, Tipsport arena, huge entertainment centre Babylon and last but not least Hotel Ještěd. Ještěd surpassing the whole town is expert-acknowledged building, which works as both a hotel and a telecommunication system, situated on top of Ještěd peak. Silver hyperboloid graves in minds of those who have seen this 1012 m high monument.

Liberec is a fast growing complex with its economics based on automotive and building industry. This fact provides ideal conditions for banking and business acceleration as well as for culture and sport development.

Liberec is the biggest city belonging to so called Euroregion Nisa that involves the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany. Its location offers great chances for development of international relations, especially with the neighboring countries and through them with other parts of the world. Companies from United States, Japan and European countries invest in this region; the existence of the Economic Chamber plays its significant role since it has been in Liberec for 150 years now.
The town itself is easily accessible by road not only from abroad but also from the Capital. It is an hour drive only to get to Prague.

Star-shaped net of bus lines and extraordinary tram transportation connecting two mountain ranges and two towns- Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou – emphasize the character of economical and administrative character. Three huge shopping malls are just being built and they will change character of the city significantly.

Low unemployment rate signalizes that people living in this region have relatively high salaries and draw near Prague's purchasing power. This fact enables to create good conditions for cultural development.

Modern library dominates to spiritual life of town as well as Technical University and local theater. Social life does not stay behind and thrives. Choruses, artists and several non-profit-making-organizations and urban organizations compile a local color. Among many let us name a museum, theater, botanical garden and a zoo.

Modern community system cannot exist without hobby and sports activities. Ice hockey, football and basketball players can be compared with the best European teams and mainly skiers belong to world's top athletes. Many sports facilities have been built up recently and provide excellent conditions for doing sports; mainly tourism has become a mass sport here.
Liberec with its neighborhood can work well as an attractive zone of tourism in the complex of beautiful countryside and also as a north Bohemia metropolis. Therefore the city represents dignified environs for such a significant and important event, like the FIS World Ski Championship Liberec 2009.
